An Unsupervised, Dual-Network Connectionist Model of Rule Emergence in Category Learning

چکیده

We develop an unsupervised “dual-network” connectionist model of category learning in which rules gradually emerge from a standard Kohonen network. The architecture is based on the interaction of a statistical-learning (Kohonen) network and a competitive-learning rule network. The rules that emerge in the rule network are weightings of individual features according to their importance for categorisation. Once the combined system has learned a particular rule, it de-emphasizes those features that are not sufficient for categorisation, thus allowing correct classification of novel, but atypical, stimuli, for which a standard Kohonen network fails. We explain the principles and architectural details of the model and show how it works correctly for stimuli that are misclassified by a standard Kohonen

INTEGRATED ADAPTIVE FUZZY CLUSTERING (IAFC) NEURAL NETWORKS USING FUZZY LEARNING RULES

The proposed IAFC neural networks have both stability and plasticity because theyuse a control structure similar to that of the ART-1(Adaptive Resonance Theory) neural network. The unsupervised IAFC neural network is the unsupervised neural network which uses the fuzzyleaky learning rule. This fuzzy leaky learning rule controls the updating amounts by fuzzymembership values. The supervised IAFC ...

A knowledge-resonance (KRES) model of category learning.

This article introduces a connectionist model of category learning that takes into account the prior knowledge that people bring to new learning situations. In contrast to connectionist learning models that assume a feedforward network and learn by the delta rule or backpropagation, this model, the knowledge-resonance model, or KRES, employs a recurrent network with bidirectional symmetric conn...

An Unsupervised Learning Method for an Attacker Agent in Robot Soccer Competitions Based on the Kohonen Neural Network

RoboCup competition as a great test-bed, has turned to a worldwide popular domains in recent years. The main object of such competitions is to deal with complex behavior of systems whichconsist of multiple autonomous agents. The rich experience of human soccer player can be used as a valuable reference for a robot soccer player. However, because of the differences between real and simulated soc...

Common Mechanisms in Infant and Adult Category Learning

Computational models of infant categorization often fail to elaborate the transitional mechanisms that allow infants to achieve adult performance. In this article, we apply a successful connectionist model of adult category learning to developmental data. The Supervised and Unsupervised Stratified Adaptive Incremental Network (SUSTAIN) model is able to account for the emergence of infants’ sens...
